Space Ritual was created on linen canvas using acrylic paints, ink and gold leaf. It is highly textured and contains chiyogami paper from Japan. Tis is one of my favourite paintings because of the intense yet gentle colours, especially with the gold and deep purple chiyogami paper. Friends have given many opinions of this work: sometimes they see patterns on the sand when the tide goes out, a maritime map with sextants, rings on tables left by champagne glasses or bags of coloured sugar. The title of Space Ritual comes from an album by rock band Hawkwind whose music I sometimes listen to while I paint. The piece is beautifully framed in a white wooden tray and is ready to hang.
