A lonely and isolated Peel tower in the Scottish/ English Borders is famous for being a monument in which the young Sir Walter Scott played in when visiting relatives in a nearby farm. He said it was the inspiration for a number of his finest novels. Derelict for many years it was once a stronghold built to protect a family from the fearsome Border Reivers.
