During one of our frequent trips to the English Lake District we decided to take a walk along the shores of Ullswater. Our intention was to walk for about 7 miles and then catch a ferry back to our starting point. After a few miles we reached the beautiful Side Farm, where we were able to stop and buy a tasty cake and some tea. After setting off I turned back and saw this view and thought it would be a great subject for a painting. I quickly took out my sketch book and camera, but almost immediately the sun went behind a cloud and the scene became dull. I decided to wait for a break in the cloud to get some good reference photos, in the meantime I made some quick sketches. To the annoyance of my family we had to wait quite a while for the return of the sun and when it eventually did return we were quite a bit behind schedule. As a result our walk turned into a mad dash to reach the ferry quay before the final ferry departed. We arrived just as the ferry was about to sail. Luckily the captain waited for us to board. This print is one out of an edition of 100.
