Odysseus is the hero of Homer’s Odyssey. It is a fascinating story of struggle, bravery and intelligence. The legendary Greek hero is on a ten year journey to return home from the Trojan War to his wife Penelope and the island of Ithaca. On his return his faithful dog Argus is the only one to immediately recognize him.

Homer’s Odyssey is a wonderful story of struggle, bravery and intelligence. The legendary Greek hero Odysseus is on a ten year journey to return home from the Trojan War to his wife Penelope and the island of Ithaca. He is protected by the goddess Minerva. The Odyssey is his 10 year journey home. Typical Greek themes of human struggles and emotions. Odysseus - name means man of pain. The journey is about never giving in and becoming wise through experience.

Every ceramic panel tells a fascinating story. They are inspired by Classical Greek Myths and Legends and the many traditions in Ancient Greece. I love ancient Greek vases, especially the wonderful collection in the British Museum in London. They depict fabulous stories of Gods and heroes and the incredible adventures they undertake, including Gods - Demi-gods – Muses - Nymphs - Musicians - Warriors - Acrobats - Sports and scenes from family life. The stories from Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad are a particular favourite for inspiration.

Technique: White stoneware clay, slab built and twice fired between 1100 and 1200c in an electric kiln. Decorated with oxides, engobes and glazes. Drawings are made from many sources, such as the ancient Greek Vases in the British Museum. These drawings are given a modern and personal interpretation and then transferred onto lino. Natural and manufactured objects are also used to make further impressions to produce strong textures that complement the design and give the feeling that the panel could once have been part of an ancient Greek building. It is finally put into a quality black 34x44cm frame to show it to good advantage. (A white frame is available if preferred). 24ct gold-leaf applied in part of the design.

Each panel is hand built and unique. Ready to hang.
