I have always enjoyed Marianne Faithfull's 'Ballad of Lucy Jordan', it has a message of failure that is not shoved down your throat, and I also always hoped she'd figure it out, dump that white suburban existence, and throw her soul back in the ring for another try...I very much doubt she did. It's very hard to walk away from your decisions, your children, the man you might even love, if only for his decency...but still. I'd love to think she did. That her moment of realisation no sports car, no Paris, no warm wind in her hair, would have been enough. What does it take, to change the essence of man? (if anyone can tell me the movie that comes from they get a free painting).

I have had them described as "romantic", and "outrageous", "eye-catching" and "utter shit". I accept all such c...
