'Sweet Dreams' Sleeping Leopard
Using as a reference a photo I took of Mias,at Banham Zoo, Norfolk in May 2018.
Mias, and his partner Sa Mias, are Sri Lankan leopards, an endangered subspecies of leopard endemic to the island of Sri Lanka; both were born in European zoos as part of the European Breeding Programme for this subspecies and reside at Banham Zoo, Norfolk.
Seeing this beautiful male leopard in repose accentuated the sense of power disguised by his languid pose. Zoos give us the privilege of witnessing large cats in a quasi-natural environment but with it goes the knowledge of the deprivation of true freedom the animal has sacrificed.
