Industry is a very striking, densely painted piece which was built up in layers of colour, and highly textured. This is a slightly dystopian take on the theme of the individual versus the corporate rooted in the past and present. It represents the personal cost of the industrial process and the “industry” which individuals give in pursuit of a living. The young man stares out, while behind him, chimneys belch smoke and molten metal flows. The environment, and his life, have been shaped by industry. But he’s thankful for the living he has, and I’ve represented this gratitude and hope for the future in shafts of light from above
