Ice Skating Hampton Court
This painting depicts the ice ring at Hampton Court during the lead up before Christmas. The lights are showing Hampton Court in a magical way - the blue is making it look like something from a fairy story. The graceful figures are caught in the lights and casting shadows on the ice. The history of Hampton Court and it's grandeur and the modern ice rink, compliment each other. I have used different blues and a light mauve for the shadows - trying to capture the cold of the frozen ice. The indigo blue highlights the turrets of the building and the tall chimneys are caught in the red lighting - showing the shapes against a backdrop of a dark inky blue sky. I took photos to capture this winter scene. This painting in acrylics and oil is painted on a deep edge canvas ready to hang.
