HUMAN CONDITION BETWEEN MEMORY AND CLOWNERY
The human condition - the clown and his inner sadness The circus comic artist provokes through presence, eccentric clothing and pranks - often cheap - laughter, good mood. This is, after all, its purpose in a show in which people are divided into two: those in the arena, who have the courage to expose public appreciations / depreciation and those around the arena, who applaud or not, what is offered to them. The circus is - often - itinerant, carrying with it all the polish it can have, in order to attract, by brilliance, especially young souls, eager to have fun. There are joys of age that few can refuse. The comparison between ordinary life and the circus world has often been made, the actors being nothing but projections of man in different existential hypostases. The arena - understood as the whirlwind of life - is the limited space where each one carries out temporarily, his “artistic number”, more or less successful. Among all, the clown makes a distinct note; he seems to be, not only the one who brings the laughter, but the completely different character, in complete opposition to everyone else and - yet - perfectly framed in the show itself. In fact, he is the only one who reflects the true human essence captive between tears and smiles, between ridiculous and sublime. With preoccupations related to the special artistic world, the painter Ovidiu Kloska proposes - this time - a suite of clowns who, through the multitude of offered images, capture one and the same essentially, central spiritual hypostasis of the man understood through the prism of his true condition. , not today, but always: the hypostasis of the clown man. The present can add, at most, the nuances characteristic of the time traversed, otherwise it remains the same, set - as it was genetically designed, in the initial stage. Only late in adulthood can you realize - if you have this privilege - that, in its deepest depths, the clown man is no different from what he was, is and will be. In a writing by Martin Luther, entitled "Letter of Interpretation," it read the following, about half a millennium ago: "By the way, don't expect any thanks." Only God himself, with his sun, heaven and earth, and even with the sacrifice of his son, received no thanks; that's how it is and that's how the world stays, damn it, because it doesn't want to change. " Erasmus of Rotterdam, as well as many others like him, will make such findings about the inner human nature, especially of mankind in general, as well as the modeling of the self — of which philosophical doctrines speak so much. and the religions of the world - will continue to be one of the most difficult labors to which man will submit. The variety of clown images made by O. Kloska approaches - willingly or unwillingly - an oriental way of working, separated into image blocks, which tries to convey the unique message, from the re-composition of the qualities of each artwork, as in the Hindus. , for example, the deity with many limbs signifies all its qualities by means of a single hypostasis, even if unusual to the Western eye and thought.
O. Kloska's clowns point out - once again - in the Absolute, the clown condition of the human being and, moreover, the artist's awareness of this state of affairs. The drama appears accentuated at the moment of the artist's understanding that nothing is to be done in the face of such a challenge, staged in illo tempore - or maybe it exists, but the stage of our current being still does not allow access to that necessary and sufficient level to produce the qualitative spiritual leap that could lead us to another being, superior, luminous, not subjugated to material and existential materiality, as things stand today. The contradictory tumult of the clown's feelings, lost in this present world - O.Kloska seems to say - could cause the very disappearance of the clown himself and then we will not know whether such a drama consumed in the infinite universe had a certain meaning, metaphysical or ba. It is a warning by which the artist - from Focsani by adoption - offers to the eye of the contemporary mind, in a personal way, the clown hypostases included in the works entitled "I am a clown" representing, in our opinion, in different proportions, both man's rebellions against his own conditions, as well as frustrations or disappointments, rather than the rare moments of serene joy, which transpire beyond the heavy curtain of the contemporary being ... The struggle that takes place takes place in one's own self; it is the Sisyphean or, perhaps, Promethean confrontation, which I have long recognized, as humanity ... The artist's awareness of his own destiny transpires from every Clownian work and it seems as if a disarmament would be born in the face of the understanding that - finally - the effort of detachment from the material may seem useless, funny, so funny that it could make you laugh; that laughter to which he urges, from the moment he enters the arena, the eccentric clown, the jester dressed in motley clothes, whose painted face has a laughing eye and a crying one ... O. Kloska's clown series proposes to man a new challenge, updated, of the human condition, crossed through all its hypostases, towards meditation and, possibly, self-modeling.
