'Houghton Meadows' Summer on the River
This Oil painting draws reference from photos I took in the summer last year... a beautiful wide-open meadow under a sky gathering clouds.
This slow-flowing small river is an ox-bow, meandering through the ancient Houghton Meadows, a habitat for otters, many species of insects including the distinctive hairy dragonfly, and insect catching birds particularly terns and kingfishers. Even on summer days, it is a place of peace and interest. I have seen seals that have swum up from the Wash here also.
As an artist that painted for many years in the tropics, I love to use bright and intense colours
Painted using alla prima technique with a combination of brush and palette knife.
Painting size is 18" x 24"
The 100% pure cotton stretched canvas has been gesso primed and the painting lightly varnished.
