This Augustinian priory in Guisborough, North Yorkshirewas founded in 1119as the Priory of St Mary by the Norman feudal magnate Robert de Brus, an ancestor of Robert the Bruce. Much of the priory was destroyed by fire in 1289.It was rebuilt in the gothic style over the following century. I have chosen pen and ink with a light wash for my painting, with a small amount of white gouache and gel pen to pick out highlights.
