Postage Stamp Collage - This portrait of Elton John is created from over 3500 used postage stamps. It includes several symbolic items. These include references to his songs. The candle of 'Candle in the Wind' is made out of Princess Diana postage stamps. The graphics for the 'Rocket Man' are simple renderings of an American Apollo but with a Russian Hammer and Sickle symbol representing the artist's favourite song 'Nikita'. The'Yellow Brick Road'' utilises a visual illusion borrowed from Escher. The image represents Elton's very colourful life and the use of heavily textured paint indicates the roughs as well as the smooths he has experienced.
