An original wood engraving depicting a driver's-eye view of the southbound approach to Piccadilly Circus station on the London Underground Bakerloo line. A lone figure is just discernible, silhouetted on a platform bench. The title of this piece raises questions: what is being contemplated, and by whom? Up close, the waiting passenger may be deep in thought, but take a step back and this whole, unusual scene can start to look like the internal workings of a head in profile. This piece was exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2013, the Royal West of England annual open 2014, and the 76th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Wood Engravers Unframed, limited edition of 250. Signed and numbered by the artist. Note: actual image size is 10x7cm hand-printed on a larger sheet of paper to allow for mounting and framing. Framing and mounting is available from the artist. Wood engraving is a traditional form of fine art printmaking. The artist uses specialised tools to create the image in relief (and reverse) on the end grain of a block of hardwood - usually boxwood - by removing the 'white' parts of the image. This technique is painstaking and highly technical, and allows for the creation of exquisitely detailed works. Rebecca's wood engravings have been exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, with the Society of Wood Engravers, and in galleries across the world from Japan to the USA.
