A Postage Stamp Portrait Winston Churchill (1874-1965) was one of the country’s greatest Prime Ministers of the 20th century. He is often seen as the powerful leader directing Great Britain through the Second World War. This portrait however is purposely softer than some of the more well-known images as it represents another side of his character as a connoisseur within the artistic fields through his writings and watercolour paintings. The picture consists of almost 3000 used postage stamps, most of which are Machin definitive. However the bow tie is composed of three stamps depicting D. Day 6th June 1944. The first stamp represents the RAF and shows ground crew reloading RAF Bostons. The second stamp represents the Navy and shows a coastal bombardment by HMS Warspire and the third depicts the Infantry regrouping on Sword Beach.
