From a black and white 1960s holiday photo it's a funky little painting reminding us how simple things can be. Direct application of line helps to enhance a sense of simplicity and trust. Children have a great and spontaneous certainty which is charming and unrehearsed. She's not wondering if it's OK to pick the flowers. Joyful innocence says 'of course it is'. Does she wonder whether the recipient of the flowers will like them or not? Nope. A gift so uncontrived would touch the heart of anyone. Back in those days kids didn't worry if their sunglasses matched their shorts either. It makes me wish the uncontrived was treasured more. Well, here's homage to it.
