CAFE NOIR

Café Life painting, - Visiting the big Van Gough Expo in the 1990's in Amsterdam, I was fired to try a work, depicting Humanity with all its foibles, in a cafe setting, where "Every man" meets. I found a city center Cafe Restaurant, with stained glass art nouveau windows and lamps with a glass rotunda ceiling - perfect! All are here, from Church to State, Mozart to Dancers. Can you see Hamlet, holding the scull in the wings? In the 1880's, as a very rough Tavern Bar, it is reputed to be where Van Gough actually used to drink! ....Print run of 50 only.
