This charming pastoral scene of Belvoir Castle in the Vale of Belvoir, Leicestershire was painted mainly on location towards the end of summer, 2015. By choosing days by the weather forecast and arriving at the same time to paint I was able to keep the integrity of conditions of light and sunshine upon the subjects. Blustery and fast shifing clouds were remarkably consistent as was the crisp blue sky. Even the sheep appeared to rotate around the field throughout the days as if to an internal schedule. It was a pleasure to paint and also walk around the nearby village Woolsthorpe By Belvoir (as opposed to Woolsthorpe near Grantham) The aspect of Belvoir Castle in the painting is the East face. The viewpoint it was painted from can be found not far from the Castle's main entrance gate which is on Cliff Road. From this starting point with the entrance on your right, continue along the road for about a quarter of a mile.Very quickly the landscape opens up with distant views. Just after a large tree on the right (which can be seen in the painting) turn right onto a dirt track and the viewpoint is immediately on the right. The castle being to the right.
