Tim Roper was born and bred in the beautiful South Shropshire hills. His workshop overlooks the sleepy town of Ludlow from a thousand feet up on the side of the Brown Clee, the highest hill in Shropshire. Tim has always had a keen interest in the plants and animals which share this rural idyll. His work shows this love of nature, having, over the years, sculpted many plant and animals. He works in steel and stainless steel and uses both modern and traditional metalworking techniques to produce his sculpture. His work varies in size from life size giraffe to small hummingbirds. Notable commissions include: RAC Gauntlet at Bovington. (Royal Armoured Corps) 2.5m tall stainless steel Gauntlet. Derby Ram. Stainless steel Ram sculpture at the entrance to Intu centre in Derby. Dudley Zoo animals, including life size Giraffe, Tiger, Orangutan, Crocodile and Sea lion. 737 Plane at East Midlands Airport. DNA Molecule (6.8m high) at Concord Collage, Shropshire. Eagle and Salmon at Kinlochleven in Scotland. Buzzard at Wyre Forest Visitor Centre. Dandelion (2.8m high in stainless steel).
