I graduated in Fine Art at the University of Brighton in 2003 and live and work in Brighton. I have always had a fascination with colours and how they work together to create a variety of moods. I find inspiration in many things and the sea is a constant source of ideas and inspiration. The changes in seasons and the weather and the effect these have on the landscape provide lots of ideas for my work. Skies, sea and surf look different at certain times of the day and when the sun shines, so I try to evoke this in my work. I go for walks on the beach and take lots of photos to record the changing light at different times of the day. The sky colour changes at different times of the day and this has an effect on the colours reflected in the sea and on the land. I really love Brighton and feel very privileged to live here, being by the sea offers artists a varied and never ending source of subject matter. In my new work I have recorded travels to Cornwall but the influence of Brighton is also in my work. I sometimes use oil paints as they don't dry too fast and the paint can be applied in different ways using a knife and brushwork. I also use acrylics. Mixing each colour to carefully correspond to other colours is an important part of the painting process for me. I love using colours that work well together and compliment each other. It’s also the part that I find most exciting. Whenever I finish a painting and can stand back and look at it, I feel satisfied. My paintings have been exhibited at the Brighton Festival and I have undertaken private commissions.

I also have Moonlight Bay. Bright and cheerful. Lovely fluorescent colours. The tree colours are particularly striking. Painted from a perspective of looking down into the bay from a height. Lovely.Submitted by Yanine R 01/07/2015
