I've been painting full-time since 1997, after a career in scuba diving, which took me to Jamaica. I was privileged to paint out of the studio of RA trained sculptor and painter, Jannette Eyles, who was also my neighbour on our hilltop above Montego Bay. My first solo show reflected my passion for our tumbling gardens, with huge watercolours of lush tropical plants and vibrant flowers. I now paint in acrylics, watercolours or mixed media and I'm immersed in a body of work which is rooted in my love of the ocean and its quirky inhabitants, who were daily companions for some 15 years. I love to add mystery with ambiguous passages of texture and light, colour and pattern. Since returning to the UK in 2013, I have received some awards including: SAA Professional Artist of the Year 2016 SAA Professional Wildlife & Animal Category 2016 Artists' & Illustrators AOY 2017 Finalist The Artist Magazine AOY 2017 Highly Commended SAA Professional Portrait Category 2017 - Commended David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation WAY 2018 - Finalist SAA Professional AOY Wildlife & Animal Category 2018 SAA Professional AOY Seascape Category 2018 David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation WAY 2019 - online exhibition I tutor workshops in UK and Jamaica, give talks and demos to art groups, and accept commissions.
