I've sketched and painted all my life since taking up sketching the farm animals I saw during long summer school holidays in Ireland - as there were no other children to play with I sketched. In the 70,s I did a foundation course at Portsmouth College of Art and Design. For several years I did not paint at all ,then after rediscovering my interest took up pen and ink sketching - churches, castles , street scenes etc - then watercolour, which remains my favourite medium. Up until about 10 years ago I was a member of several local, West London societies - Ealing, Richmond, Harrow, Chelsea, etc. and had several solo exhibitions at libraries -Ealing, Harrow, Uxbridge. Although I suppose I'm self taught, I should acknowledge that I learned mostly from the books of my favourite painters - E.Wesson, J.Fletcher Watson, J.Pike, E. Seago, J. P. Bonnington, among others. I'm also influenced by traditional Chinese watercolour painting. My own style currently is loose and impressionistic. I try to capture the feel of a place rather than a photographic likeness. Although I use my phone camera a lot now I still like to do a pencil sketch or thumbnail,to organise tone and composition, as advised by the great American watercolourist and teacher John Pike. I'm very happy to have found Art Gallery.co.uk, and hope to have originals as well as limited edition prints on watercolour paper. I invested in my own printer for this purpose. I do mostly landscapes and coastal scenes and townscapes ,and tend to work in batches or series of pictures on the same subject - this allows me to experiment and see how a picture would look using a different technique or colour combination
