I have painted for many years using various media, including pastels, acrylic, oils and latterly watercolours. I am undertaking further studies at college under the guidance of a well known print maker and watercolour artist. My subject matter relates to the world that I can see in front of me, whether it is seascapes, domestic and animal scenes or still life. My approach to painting in watercolours is to use the translucent quality of this medium to show the way that light interacts around the subject and to capture that atmosphere and mood that is all too fleeting. When looking for inspiration I go out in the early morning with my camera and sketchbook and try to identify a composition that captures my eye and I then try to interpret the scene as quickly as possible usually with pencil sketches and notes and supplemented with photographs.
