I have experience of painting at 'O' level, 'A' level and a B. Ed degree (Hons) to teach primary school children, specializing in painting, printing, ceramics and textiles. I finished my degree in 1991, then kept up with some painting for friends and family. I did not paint many a year, until I came to the Hebrides in 2003. I have travelled the Highlands, fleeting visit to Ireland, the Isle of Lewis, where I now live and the Isle of Harris in a luxury motor-home, whilst renting out the house between 2005 and 2007. I painted around 180 paintings in the two years. I sent the last painting, I painted, on the road, 'Pebble Beach' to an International competition called 'Simply the Best' and was shortlisted in the top twenty. I went to the exhibition for the people's vote, it did not win, but it was published in the 'Leisure painter.' I did it again two years later with 'A Smile in the Snow' it was shortlisted and did not win, but to get that far has proved a challenge and a big reward for all my hard work. it has sold numerous published cards. I enter Patchings competition every year and been shortlisted for 'Ring Plover on Snail Shells.' I have had a series of panoramic beaches, wildlife animals and Callanish cards all published now which I sell around the Islands and in my gallery and coffee shop, called Island Arts in Balallan on the Isle of Lewis. This is one of my biggest achievements, to see my cards in print. I had reached my peak at this point. I am a gold and professional member of the Society of All Artists. I have many more paintings on their website. I have been in their 'Paint' magazine with paintings chose for the members' gallery, competitions, copying photographs and letters to the editor. I had another exciting story published by the editor in the 'Artist.' as well as full page editorial in the 'Paint' magazine recently. My style is developing and progressing fast, since I have such a jewel of an Island to paint, with so much inspiration around me. I paint: wild flowers, wildlife: otters, seals, sheep, highland cattle; seascapes and the famous Harris beaches, landscapes, Callanish Stones, fairies, and I love painting birds, which are symbolic of myself, flying high to achieve my goals. My style has developed from realism to mixing photos together, using sketches and more contemporary, modern, loose brushwork, some mixed media. It has been an exciting and interesting painting journey so far. Join me in my progress by looking at paintings on the website. I also paint portrait pet commissions of your dog or cat. Please contact me to arrange downloading photos. Cost for one head A4 size @ £95. Happy Painting! Debbie
