Christopher Gill has been a professional fine artist and portrait painter for over 30 years . His art is created in oil paint on canvas.Christopher Gill initially studied Graphic Design at Derby College of Higher Education before going on to study Fine Art at Lancashire Polytechnic (graduating in 1984) where his paintings earned a 1st Class Honours. He has paintings in many UK and international private and corporate collections. He has undertaken prestigious portrait commissions, including group portraits of a monumental nature, and painted in his trademark naturalistic style. His clients include private collectors, families and celebrity clients.Christopher paints fantastic large landscapes brimming with light , colour and elegance - capturing as sense of place and time. However he is also well known for his fabulous portraits. Christopher's passion is to create handsome figurative paintings and breathtaking landscapes that will stand the test of time to become heirlooms and classics of the future. My aim is to produce beautiful and highly finished works that youd be happy and proud to hang on the wall of your living room or might grace the most distinguished board rooms of the corporate world! says Christopher.He derives much inspiration from the great Renaissance masters, particularly the brilliant Northern Renaissance artists such as Memling, Van Eyck , and Van de Weyden. More recent artists whose work he admires are the 20thC painters such as the Dutch Pyke Koch and Carel Villinck, and the Brotherhood of Ruralist artist David Inshaw. Chris lives and works in the stunning Peak District of Derbyshire, taking his inspiration from the beautiful , ever changing landscapes around Matlock, Bakewell and Ashbourne. He travels frequently to the medieval hills and towns of Tuscany, to the Atlantic beaches and sublime waters of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia USA to paint . His paintings often feature the varied landscape and seascapes of France.During the artistic process Chris strives to make every painting a timeless work of art worthy of many generations of enjoyment. To that end Chris employs a range of techniques to arrive at the finished portrait or landscape, drawing upon his extensive knowledge and research into the techniques of the Old Masters.
