Anne Bosset was born in Kenya, and spent much of her childhood in Japan and New Zealand. All three of these countries were later to influence aspects of her painting, in particular the luminosity of Africa's open skies and the vast tracts of land. After studying at the West Surrey College of Art and then at Oxford, she began teaching art in schools in London and the south-east of England, spending time during school holidays in a house near Crickhowell in Wales, with stunning views of the Black Mountains and the river Usk. The variations in the light and landscape of this area have inspired much of her recent work. She paints principally in water colour and acrylic, using layers of paint and hand-made paper to create depth in her work.
