A Cardboard Story
I met Simon in 2020 on the streets of Southampton. It was a really cold day and it had just started to rain. We spoke about his journey to where he was and like many homeless people that I have met the journey was a sad and lonely one where suddenly he found himself homeless and stuck in a deep hole that he was desperately trying to get out of.
I wanted to paint the background as cardboard as this was so prevalent in the homeless areas that I encountered and I also wanted to paint a glimpse of Simon's childhood and the feeling of loneliness.
I wanted to paint "A Cardboard Story" in a realism style using oil paints on canvas. I wanted to create a documentary of the consequences of poverty.
I primed the canvas in red paint and started building the layers of the oil paintinginitially using large brushes and gradually decreasing the size of the brushes until I used single hair brushes for the smallest of detail.
"A Cardboard Story" is an original oil painting and it is unique as there are no prints. The painting will come with a signed certificate of authenticity and is framed in a hand crafted frame and it will be tracked and insured during delivery.
