This very large painting is the first of a series of three which depict religious buildings in Malvern, Worcestershire. Not long after the time of the Battle of Hastings, St Wulstan, the then Bishop of Worcester, encouraged a monk, called Aldwin, in the work of founding a monastery in what was then the Malvern Chase. The work began in 1085 on land belonging to Westminster Abbey. This magnificant building nestles on the slopes of the Malvern Hills
