This painting is all about light and contrast. I've used the texture of the paper to good effect on the walls, and there are lots of subtle colour changes where the strong light from the windows strikes the girl. I usually leave the viewer to read what they like into the painting. However with this one I have tried to portray the message that if you are feeling that your life is miserable and you feel trapped, you should try to take the maximum pleasure from the smallest things that come your way.
Completed using Faber Castell Pitt pastel-pencils on white Fabriano Ingres 160gsm pastel paper, it will be supplied sealed, mounted in white and framed with a contemporary pale grey with gilt trim, ready to hang.
