I have been painting and drawing on and off now for fifteen years before and since I gained my 2:1 honours degree in fine art from Canterbury Christ Church College. Having sold all of my degree work and subsequent work to private collectors and friends I went travelling before returning to England and moving to London where I took up a second degree in Physiotherapy.
I had not painted for three years when I started to again use oils, pastels and now watercolours to experiment for my current and future works. I have always enjoyed drawing portraits but tend to stick with abstract and semi-abstract art. I am heavily influenced by Rothko, Diebenkorn, De Kooning and also Brian Ryder. I however love the work of Turner, Bacon, William Matthews and Lowry.
All of these influences and living in London come together to give the theme of man-made nature where I seek to bring together the ideas of natural colours and shapes with the symmetry, linearity and colour spectrums of human design and construction.
