| Having grown up feeling slightly in the shadow of parents and a brother whom were artists, Damian graduated from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle Upon Tyne with BA Honours in Fine art, moved to Charlotte North Carolina (USA) and began working as an artist in Charlotte (June 2000 was a busy month) where he exhibited in many group and solo shows over the following five years. Group shows during this time included the Daniel Styber gallery (October 2000), The Charlotte Artist’s Society Bank of America show (April 2004), The Artist’s Gallery (January 2005).
The works produced during this time were largely of a commercial concern and very much driven by environment, although these works were largely realist landscapes or scenes of every day life, Damian views these paintings as surreal. Damian returned to the UK September 2005 and commenced producing a body of work which continues to evolve. Damian’s work focuses on the dominance of the model over their environment and occasionally their audience. The works avoid being overtly sexual yet maintain a level of intimacy that is challenging. |
