My name is Craig de Klerk. I am 30 years old and happily married with 2 children. I grew up in Kwa-zulu Natal in South Africa and have had the opportunity to travel extensively in southern Africa. This has instilled in me a fondness and passion for the landscape and unrivalled beauty it has to offer.
My ultimate aim in every painting is to translate the sheer intensity and radiance one encounters in the last 15 minutes of a dying day, or indeed, the first 15 minutes of a fresh one. I hope to convey, through the contrasting foreground of age old trees and well trodden bushlands, although not always evident, the potential for abundant life in the painting. What could be behind that tree, or lying hidden just beyond our vision?
I found I had the ability to paint from an early age and achieved the South African equivalent to A’level in art. I have worked full time and painted as a hobby, selling work in South Africa, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. I have recently chosen to invest my time in painting as a career.
My hope is, as you sit before my painting, you feel some of the sensation one feels when confronted with nature’s daily occurrence.
